Sandi Hurtado-Peters

Background

Sandi is a Senior Fiscal and Policy Analyst for the State of Iowa’s Department of Management. She has dedicated over 16 years of her career to local and state budgeting and public policy. Although she has lived in America for over 40 years, her memories of her birthplace in Colombia are as vivid as if she had only left yesterday. As the daughter of an American mother and a Colombian father, Sandi has witnessed the effects and challenges that come with first generation migration. Her level of knowledge acquired from working closely with Departments of Education, Health, Human Services, and Veterans provides her with great insight on how social and economic aspects can both contribute and hinder growth in our communities.

Education

Sandi received both her Masters in Public Administration and her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Volunteerism

Sandi has served and volunteered numerous time as the Treasurer on the board for the Columbia (Missouri) Civic Orchestra and is currently the Treasurer for the Des Moines Youth Hockey Association board. She has been responsible for helping streamline various financial activities within both organizations and assist with their various local activities.

Sandi has done a tremendous job over the last 5+ years as treasurer of our non-profit Des Moines Youth Hockey Association (DMYHA).  With over 600 members in our programs, Sandi has volunteered countless hours and offered excellent oversight of our membership funds. Her knowledge and expertise helping prepare the annual budget for our programs has been crucial for our association’s growth. I am thankful for the time she has offered and It has been a pleasure to work with her.
