Biography

David J. Peters is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Extension Rural Sociologist at Iowa State University. His primary research areas include social and economic change in rural communities, especially the rise of majority-minority towns linked to large agricultural production and processing facilities. Born and raised in Minnesota, David graduated with a B.S. cum laude from the U. of Minnesota and went to the U. of Missouri for graduate school (earning an M.S. and Ph.D.), where he met his wife who was born in Colombia.

Research & Volunteerism

Besides working with Latinos in rural Iowa, he travel to Colombia to visit his wife’s family and has research collaborations with the Universidad de Cauca in Popayán, Colombia.
